Hamadan Carpets

Hamadan, one of the world’s oldest cities, is a city situated in the western part of Iran, 300 kilometers west of Teheran. Hamedan rugs are generally very colourful and made with good quality wool. The rugs produced in cities surrounding Hamedan are also called Hamedan. There is a particular type of Hamadan Carpet called “Shahr Baft” which means knotted in the city. Shahr Baft Hamedan Rugs are the best in terms of quality, knot density, and durability among all other kinds of Hamedan Rugs.

Hamadan Rugs commonly have floral and geometric (Diamond) motifs. Red and blue are the primary colours in Hamedan Carpets, and Turkish symmetrical knot technique is used in the weaving process.  Hamadan carpets are also well known for being strong, sturdy, and durable.
